The TVR Revival

This isn’t just any new car launch. It’s the first new TVR since the British marque closed its doors back in 2006 under the pressure of a poor economic climate. That’s why today is such a big day for classic sports car enthusiasts around the world, especially those with a penchant for British fare. And a landmark day for British sports car manufacture.

Here at Oakmere Motor Group, we’ve been affiliated with TVR since 1986, when we established ourselves as one of the largest TVR dealers in the country, relishing in the successes of the TVR Griffith, Chimaera and Cerbera. When production ceased, we were happy to maintain relationships with TVR owners and collectors by servicing, repairing and restoring these cherished and unique icons. Along with these enthusiasts, we’re delighted that TVR is back and, arguably, better than ever, ready to return to the glory days of the 1990s.

Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR, is the man behind this hotly anticipated TVR revival. He’s a lifelong fan of the British marque who wants to give back to the community of sports car enthusiasts with affordable cars that are full of character. He understands the expectations of the fans behind TVR, so he knows that what he produces has to meet these high standards.

Goodwood Revival 2017 and 70 Years of TVR

Having represented TVR for many years at The British Motorshow, you can imagine that today was a pretty big day for Oakmere Motor Group, especially after being newly re-appointed as a member of the TVR Heritage Network. And what an event at which to make TVR history!

Now in its 20th year, Goodwood Revival celebrates classic road racing cars and motorcycles, so the event provided the perfect backdrop for TVR’s re-launch. For the first time in the festival’s history, Goodwood has been the stage for the global unveiling of a brand-new model. To celebrate 70 years of TVR, the new car was displayed inside the Earls Court Motor Show, surrounded by various older TVRs to display the British marque’s journey across the last 70 years.

So, let’s take a look at the car in question.

The Brand New TVR

TVR and Gordon Murray Designs, the genius behind the McLaren F1, worked long and hard on this new slice of TVR history. According to Edgar, private viewings of the new TVR were held for existing customers before the launch was confirmed. The British car company values their customers, so it was important that they were involved in ensuring that their new model was ready for unveiling.

Here’s what TVR promised of the new model on its website prior to the launch:

  • British in every way - True to TVR’s DNA and heritage

  • V8 - Front-engined with manual transmission and rear wheel drive

  • A two seat coupé/convertible - Breathtaking in appearance and performance.

And if that wasn’t enough to get us all excited, here are the specs:

  • 1200kg

  • 200mph performance

  • 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds

  • 400bhp per tonne

  • 5.0 litre V8 powerplant

  • 6-speed manual gearbox

  • 4300mm long, 1271mm high

The new car was designed with a primary focus on driver performance and safety. Its side exhausts and ground effect ensure that it “remains unflinchingly stable at high speeds while delivering exceptional handling and cornering capabilities.”

Take Home Your Own TVR

Unsurprisingly, the new TVR received a lot of attention in the build up to the official unveiling, with hundreds of deposits being put down to secure the first batch.

Just 500 special launch edition cars were reserved for the event at Goodwood Revival, available for the especially eager among us for £90,000. These special edition TVRs featured a full carbon fibre structure, although later production models will favour an aluminium chassis and fibreglass shells, with carbon fibre available as an alternative if you’re willing to pay extra.

Oakmere Motor Group ordered two of these launch edition vehicles as demonstration models but the best news is that you can get your hands on your own new TVR too. To place a deposit on a build slot and get your own piece of TVR history, get in touch with our TVR Sales Manager, Steve Jeavons on 01606 41481.

What did you think of TVR’s big unveiling? Did it live up to the hype? We think so! Oakmere Motor Group is excited to see what else TVR has in store for us in upcoming years.
